The first Lyme Regis Gig, named Rebel, was built by Gail McGarva at the Lyme Regis Boat Building Academy.
The boat was built to strict specifications, using English Elm, and, for the first time, digital plans were used. Rebel is also the
first Cornish Pilot Gig built by a woman.
At various stages during the build, officials from The CPGA
visited to ensure all aspects of the build were proceeding correctly.
All Gigs are 32' long and 4' 10" wide, and have 8 thwarts( seats ); 1 for the cox, 6 for the rowers,
and 1 "seagull" seat in the bow.
