The Launch of Rebel

29th July 2008.

The lyme Regis Gig Club proudly launched it's first Pilot Gig, Rebel, in a ceremony within keeping of the tradition that surrounds Cornish Pilot Gigs.

Rebel was unveiled to an expectant crowd at the Lyme Regis Power Boat Club, and after speeches from the Town Crier, George Eyre (President, LRGC), Marcus Dixon (Chairman, LRGC), and Yvonne Green( Lyme Regis Boat Building Academy), She was processed to the harbour, led by a drummer and oar bearers.

Before taking to the water, Rebel was blessed by the local Vicar, and after a speech from the Mayor, Champagne was poured on her stern, and sea salt was thrown over the boat.

Rebel was then rowed out of the harbour, and headed out to sea in choppy conditions, followed by Gigs from Teignmouth, Weymouth, and Swanage.

After a short race, it was back to the power boat club for beer, BBQ, tea, and cakes.

Our thanks go to eveyone who helped make this an incredibly memorable day. Here's to the launch of our next Gig!
