Lyme Finish Well In Appledore Supervets Regatta 2016

Appledore Pilot Gig Club hosted their excellent Supervetts Regatta for over 50's with 23 ladies crews and 21 Men's crews competing. Lyme was represented by two ladies and two Men's teams.  Four prequalifying races each for ladies and men's crews on Saturday 2nd April were followed on the Sunday by the semi-finals, finals and a mixed barbarians race to finish the day. 

The villiage of Appledore is situated at the mouth of the River Toridge and the race takes place in the estuary with the start line up river, just beyond the boatyard. This year again saw very competitive sprint racing with five to six fibreglass gigs in each heat rowing to the finish adjacent to the slipway. The first three gigs from each prequalifying heat on the Saturday went on to compete in the semi-finals and the last six making it through to the finals on the Sunday afternoon.

Lyme Regis Ladies and Men's 'A' Crews made it through their requalifying heats on Saturday. The Ladies storming to first place in the prequalifiers in red gig 'Phillipa J', ( achieving first again in the semi-finals and finishing a great 4th overall. The Men's A Team also made it through to the finals and finished an excellent 3rd overall.
