Bridport Gig Regatta - A Good Day For Lyme Regis

Tuesday 12th July 2016

The sun shone at West Bay for he Bridport Gig Club Regatta where 12 local clubs took part. Lyme fielded a record 19 crews in the various races throughout the day, including for the first time two under 14s crews.

For most of these youth rowers it was their first taste of the intensity of racing - from the build-up to the start line, to the intensity of the mass racing starts, from racing around the buoys to chasing down the oposition toward the end and they loved every bit of it! Both crews did the Club proud and should look forward to future races with much confidence as they held their own amongst a field of crews almost entirely made up of Under 16s.

For the Lyme Ladies the highlight was a second place in the Ladies A Race, beating some high class crews. This result is arguably the ladies' best result this year, working their way up through the racing field through-out the race, which is a very hard task indeed. The Men's A and Men's Vets continued their local dominance winning in both classes and are now considered 'the crew to beat' amongst Dorset clubs.

Overall Lyme came second in the Regatta, a highly comendable result, and would like to thank the excellent squad of co-gig rowers at Bridport for a superb regatta.

The results for the Lyme Regis crews racng in Tempest were; Mens B - 3rd, Men's A 1st, Juniors - 7th, Ladies B - 5th, Ladies A - 2nd, Men's C - 3rd, Ladies C - 3rd, Mens Vets - 1st, Ladies Vets - 5th, Men's SuperVets - 4th, Ladies SuperVets - 4th, Mixed - 2nd. Tempest came overall second in the event.

The results for the Lyme crews racing Black Ven were; Men's B - (no crew entered), Men's A - (No Crew entered), Juniors - 5th, Ladies B - 6th, Ladies A - 9th, Men's C - 4th, Ladies C - 9th, Men's Vets - 13th, Ladies Vets - 8th, Men's SuperVets - 8th, Ladies SuperVets - 10th, Mixed - 14th. Black Ven came overall 9th in the event.
