IntraClub Racing Report - 21 May 2017
Tuesday 23rd May 2017
On Sunday 21st May, Lyme Regis Gig Club staged the club's first IntraClub racing of the 2017 season, in the late afternoon and shortly RNLI's 'Blessing of the Boats' ceremony.
IntraClub racing gives Club members the opportunity to experience the thrill and excitment of competition. Participating crews are mixed and drawn from juniors, new and club rowers and those who compete.
The day was sunny and dry with a blustery, southerly wind and a sea with long swells which had the gigs surfing and surging forward as they raced to the finish line.
The IntraClub racing saw forty eight members in eight crews and four gigs racing. It was staged in four heats. The first two heats saw the crews racing over a closely contested, ten minute course. The third race saw the bottom four crews racing and the finals for the top four crews. The winners received IntraClub medals.
The racing was well managed and big thanks to Phil, Val, Justyn, Jeff, Ray and the team on the club's safety Rib that was also used as the start boat.
The IntraClub was rounded off by a great prize giving ceremony at Lyme Regis Sailing Club complete with lots of delicious food and cakes.
