Salcombe Regatta Report - Sunday 4th June

Sunday 4th June 2017

On Sunday 4th June Lyme Regis Gig Club took part in the Salcombe Pilot Gig Club regatta competing against fourteen crews including Bristol, Brixham, Caradon, Cattewater, Clevedon, Dartmouth, Exmouth, HMS Raleigh, Rame, Rock RM Tamar, Salcombe and Teign.

The day started with heavy downpoor of rain but cleared as the racing progressed. The race start line was off the gardens, below Salcombe Sailing Club and the course down toward the mouth of the ria toward South Sands, around three marks and finishing with a long home run back to the finish/start line.  At the start of the racing the tide was ebbing which saw some gigs making a fast passage clinging to the far shore and crossing to take the first mark, while other giggs battled it out in the main channel and tidal flow. As the day proceeded so the tide changed which as it came in, made the final leg much more fun.

Lyme Regis Gig Club fielded a mixed crew and came a good 7th overall. This included Men B - 6, Ladies B - 5, Men C - 4, Ladies C - 6, Men A - 7, Ladies A - No Lyme crew  entered, Mens Vets - 4, Ladies Vets - 11, Men Supervets - No Lyme Crew entered, Ladies SuperVets - 15, Mixed - 8th. Lyme Regis Gig Club had a great day and would like to thank Salcombe for hosting another great regatta.
